Courage Under Fire

Malalai Kakar, the most high-profile woman police officer in Afghanistan, paid a heavy price for her indomitable courage and spirit. Militants, who were waiting outside the home of Kakar, pumped bullet after bullet into her body, killing her on the spot. Kakar, a mother of six, was well known to everyone for her courage in Kandahar - one of Afghanistan's most conservative provinces. The lady, the most senior policewoman in the province, had been appointed chief of a team of about 10 women police officers.

Kakar, who did her best to stop crimes against women and children, had received a number of death threats. After killing her, the extremist Taliban movement claimed responsibility and expressed delighted at eliminating her. But they forgot one thing that they managed to kill only her body, not her bravery, not her legacy. I pray to God to produce thousands of Kakars in Afghanistan. May her soul rest on peace!

I salute the brave lady, who challenged the religious fundamentalism refused to surrender to the dictates of those who wanted to take the country to the Middle Ages providing wrong interpretation of Islam. This mother of six came from a backward country that was still struggling to see the light of modernity and development. As long as people like her continue to come forward, we have reasons to believe that terrorism will not have the last laugh.

I congratulate Afghanistan to give birth to a lady like KAKAR.

It is the cause, not the death that makes the martyr. Her life and work, er struggles to shun the veil and take charge of a top public service department, speaks volumes about her grit, determination and courage. Although her death should be mourned, it is her life that should be celebrated more.

I just finished watching "Road to Guantanamo" /2006.It made my stomach turn.I will never set my foot in Afganistan or Pakistan!

Her death was cruel, but thank god they didn't torture her before killing..They say the Thaliban has ways of torture so terrible that the screams will frighten even crows from their nests and if the person survives he will never again have a night's sleep.

They need to kill the Thaliban now. eye for an eye!All in the name of Allah! (#$%^%)

Terrorism frightens me most of all. Kakar is an extraordinary example of women leadership. She planted a seed in people’s hearts. I hope her spirit, her audacious example will drive Afghanistan society for better future.

I am shocked to see this picture ! Holding a gun in these circumstances is OK for me, but not with this prayer thing and then kill in the name of god or allah or whatever religion !

Interesting blog...

Killing women is easy, but killing womanship is impossible for anybody.

Respect to all women like Kakar.
