And My Vote Goes To…..

Not Heath Ledger, Not Christian Bale. Neither Michael Caine nor Morgan Freeman. My vote goes to simply The Dark Night. I am not a huge fan of fantasy or sci-fi cinema. That's why I never watched a single movie of this genre, but this time I went to theatre to watch The Dark Night. And I was amazed to see the powerful performance by Ledger and Bale. And it is difficult to say who is the best. As a villain, Ledger certainly deserves an Oscar and as a hero, Bale's performance was up to the mark. But the question is what forced me to hit the theatre? Is it friends' recommendation or critics' overwhelming positive response or is it a desire to see Ledger for the last time on the screen? I confess that all these factors influenced me to see the movie.




But what is its uniqueness? Many things. One most important thing is sacrifice. Amidst heavy corrupted system, there are certain people who don't want to change their principles. And we should admire these people. We believe that the sole purpose of cinema is to get pure entertainment, but I don't agree with that. There is gruesome violence, but peace was there in a hidden format. And just you have to feel it. Villain was there to destroy everything, but hero was there to save everything. A must watch for not only batman fans but for those who want to appreciate movies with dark theme.

Life and death do not matter anymore. People don't even think about it. We have become too much individualistic in this materialistic world. How? Have a look at the following story.

A 57-year old man lost his life in a Bucharest hospital, Romania, as a nurse, who was supposed to look after him went to sleep without informing anyone and declined to get up when alerted by other patients when the man, suffering from lung cancer, asked for oxygen. Before his last breath, the man struggled the whole night watched helplessly by other patients.

Why I Always Dream About "The Dreamers" ?

Some consider it is a soft-porn flick, while others feel it is a pure erotic, but for me it is a plain movie. It is a movie about teenage romance, passion, obsession, innocence and pure love. I don't know those who have seen this British/French drama film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci will agree with me or not. Many feel that this movie could have been made better. Even I agree, but perhaps Bertolucci wanted to make this movie in his own way, ignoring the main theme of the movie '1968 student rebellions'. The Academy Award winning film director, who always emphasised two main themes in his movies - politics and women - admitted during an interview with BBC that the film has everything - cinema, eroticism, politics and rock 'n' roll. Certainly, 'The Dreamers' is not a masterpiece of Bertolucci, but for me it is a modern classic. According to many critics, the end results are disappointing. Why? Perhaps the director knows it better than us. The movie is certainly not for everyone. It is for those who understand Bertolucci's passion for cinema. When I recommended this movie to some of my friends, the response was somehow negative. They claimed that Bertolucci failed to explain the climax and concentrated heavily on the extreme intimacy between the three main characters in the movie. The New Yorker said it, " Pure Bertiloci", while The Guardian described it - "Sends Shivers Of Erotic Frission Of Up The Spine," whereas The Evening Standard said," A Swooning Love Letter To Paris, To Cinema And To Love". According to The Daily Telegraph - "A Masterpiece With Controversy Stamped All Over It." And I said - The Dreamers Is Not To Be Missed.

Let Them Bloom !

I never wanted to write an article on homosexuality, but the historic gay parade in Delhi, India propelled me to express my thoughts through my blog. The parade, where fashion celebrity like Manish Arora joined, was held beyond any one's imagination. At the same time, such kind of parades were also orgainsed across the world including one in Sofia, Bulgaria. But unlike Bulgaria, Delhi parade did not witness any kind of violence. But the only question that remains to be answered is whether there be a ban on gay, lesbian, bisexuals and transgender in our country? It is of my opinion that there should not be any kind of ban on them, despite the fact that homosexual relations are legally considered as a crime in India under Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.




In a democratic country like India everybody has the right to express their liberty and it is our duty to give the power of liberty and freedom to everyone. In many countries, people have actually realized that there is a place for homosexuality in the society, though many governments still oppose gay marriages. However, in our country it is difficult to convince the people that gay people are not from Mars. Believe it or not, they were in the early 20th century, and now they are everywhere in the world.
