Rise From The Ashes

Now

Then

Think Mickey Rourke and suddenly the movie '9 1/2 Weeks" will come to our minds. At the age of 56, Mickey won his career's first golden globe award for his mindboggling performance in "The Wrestler". If you ask me why I love him very much, apart from his acting, I love his toughness, roughness and his intense looks. Even at this age, he can give stiff challenge to actors like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. By the middle of the ‘80s, girls considered him as the heartthrob of Hollywood. Time was there when critics used to compare with him legendary actors like Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro. His movie "Body Heat" made him a star in Hollywood. Rourke appeared in "Angel Heart," a movie, which was highly praised by critics as well as moviegoers for his intense acting. The movie was nominated for a number of awards. However, at the end of the ‘80s he made some bad career decisions. He embraced drugs and alcohol. Mickey, however, decided to play small roles in movies such as "The Rainmaker", "Buffalo '66", "Animal Factory", "The Pledge" and "Get Carter" in the 1990s. And how can one forget his ferocious as well as stylish looks as the villain in Enrique Iglesias's music video for "Hero" which also featured Jennifer Love Hewitt ? 2005 was significant for the actor. Mickey's stunning comeback in "Sin City" stunned the Hollywood. He received awards from the Chicago Film Critics Association, the IFTA and the Online Film Critics Society, as well as 'Man of the Year' from Total Film magazine that year. After receiving the Gloden Globe award, Mickey said, "Sometimes when you're alone all you got is your dog." Earlier, he confessed that canines saved him from destroying his life. And who knows this man may grab an Oscar too.

It's impossible to compare Mickey to others, IMO, he's in a league of his own.

Good to see this write up...Inspiring it is, Deepak...

"Sometimes when you're alone all you got is your dog."

I am reminded of Kate Chopin's story 'Regret'

It must be true...I have seen as "life style" advances people keep dogs...and of course they are the most faithful lot on earth.

wishes,
devika

So many plastic surgeries have been done to his face, I hardly recognised him at the Golden Globe Awards...

Never had a great interest in American idols, there are too many other people in other continents this world who deserve more attention. Just because you are American doesn't make you great. The American machine makes the rest of the world believe they are great, not least their own people!

Great acting is grossly overated, I doubt he could act live eith any success in theatre. He'd never dare try I might add.

America loves a second act. I'll never forget him in Diner, which was filmed in Baltimore.

It is surely too complicated to try to understand why he has gone through that long period of mental as well as physical self-destruction. I can only hope for the man himself that this may be the beginning of some more self-respect and consequently respect for others.

Mickey Rourke was the dude but now he looks like a Caucasian version of Michael Jackson. This is what serial plastic surgery do to you.

To me he will always be the '9-1/2 weeks' hero. It looks as though he had plastic surgery and his face is not aged but deformed. It's too bad.

Loved him in Angel Heart and a film about the IRA - he was awesome and will go and see his new film for sure!
